Special categories (sensitive personal data) cover information of a particularly sensitive nature. This can include data on racial or ethnic origin, sexual orientation, religious or philosophical beliefs, political opinions, trade union membership, genetic data, or data concerning health that can clearly identify a person. Health data can include sick leave, doctor’s visits, or pregnancy. Processing such data is prohibited unless an exception applies, for example where another law, such as in employment law, provides a basis for the processing.
